In 2000 the Senior Net movement had established Clubs throughout New Zealand which offered lessons for PC owners but had no interest in exploring the new revolutionary Macintosh computer range. So it was decided to try and correct this situation by forming a Mac Senior Net in Auckland. An advertisement was placed in a Community newspaper and from the enthusiasm shown by Mac owners who replied it was decided to apply for registration as an Incorporated Society which was approved on the 16th February 2001.
The first monthly meetings were held in the Highland Park Community Centre and lessons were given in a members house on borrowed Macs. Membership continued to grow and successful funding applications were made to Telecom, Royal Oak Trust for new equipment and later ASB Bank Community Trust (twice), NZ Post, Sony and Waffell Web Solutions.
In January 2004 the Manukau Council leased the Club a room in Keall House, Howick for lessons and the use of a larger room for meetings.
Membership was increasing and in November 2005 it became apparent that while there were Mac owners on the North Shore interested in joining they were not prepared to drive to Howick headquarters for meetings. A Shore member arranged for the Club to meet in the computer suite of the Belmont Intermediate School Takapuna. Later a similar arrangement was made with Bucklands Beach Intermediate School for Howick meetings.
Along the way the two founders, Arthur Weeds and Douglas Peacock were on the recommendation of the Executive, appointed to Honorary Membership in recognition of meritorious service to Mac Senior Net.
